Douglas County will be permanently closing a drop-off recycling location at Stull Community of Faith Church due to illegal dumping.
A new release from Douglas County states that the drop-off recycling location at the church, 1596 East 250 Road, is scheduled to be permanently closed on Friday, March 14, and no longer available.
The site has been used for many months and large unaccepted items and loose bags of waste have been left at the site, according to the news release. In addition, the church grounds and neighboring properties have been littered with windblown materials.
“The site has been heavily used, but it has also been misused,” the release said.
To continue offering recycling in the western portion of the county, Douglas County staff will be working to find a new location for residents to recycle.
The following sites are currently available for recycling, and they are serviced on Tuesday and Thursday of each week:
* Prairie Moon Waldorf School, 1853 East 1600 Road
* Vinland, 1704 North 700 Road
* Greenbush Resource Center, formerly Wakarusa Valley School, 1104 East 1000 Road
Accepted materials include newspaper, office paper, magazines, cardboard, aluminum cans and plastics.
