Douglas County commissioners met for their business meeting on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
Douglas County commissioners on Wednesday voted unanimously to submit a grant application to continue funding a mental health program for youths in juvenile detention.
As the Journal-World reported, the grant the county is applying for will support the ongoing partnership between the Kansas Department of Corrections and the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center to ensure continued access to mental health and substance use assessments and related services.
According to a memo in the commission’s meeting agenda, Douglas County Criminal Justice Services is requesting $91,900 to fund the initiative. If the state approves the funding, the grant would be active from July 1 of this year through June 30, 2026.
This agenda item was featured on the County Commission’s consent agenda, where all items can be approved in one motion. No regular agenda items were included in the agenda on Wednesday.
