A groundbreaking ceremony for the Judicial and Law Enforcement Center renovation and expansion along with the Public Safety Building project will be postponed to next week.
According to a press release from Douglas County, the groundbreaking ceremony for the largest capital improvement project in the county’s history, the JLEC and Public Safety Building project, will be rescheduled to 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24., and it will take place on the south lawn of the JLEC, 111 E. Eleventh St.
The event, which was originally scheduled for Friday, Jan. 17, was postponed in consideration of those impacted by a trial hearing.
At the event, there will be brief remarks from Douglas County Commissioner Shannon Reid; James McCabria, Chief Judge of the Seventh Judicial District; Douglas County Emergency Communications Director Tony Foster; Vice President Tim Ockinga, of J.E. Dunn Construction; and Principal Jeff Lane, of Treanor.
The construction for the addition of the JLEC is expected to start later this month, weather permitting. The Douglas County Commission approved a project budget of $81.9 million on Dec. 11 and it will be funded with bonds and cash on hand, as the Journal-World reported. Treanor Architects and J.E. Dunn Construction are the design and construction team for the project, which is expected to take approximately two and a half years to complete.
