A groundbreaking ceremony for the Judicial and Law Enforcement renovation and expansion along with the Public Safety Building project will be postponed until further notice.

According to a brief press release from Douglas County, the groundbreaking ceremony for the largest capital improvement project in the county’s history, the JLEC and Public Safety Building project, will be rescheduled for a later date, and it will not take place on Friday, Jan. 17. The construction for the addition of the JLEC is expected to start later this month, with weather permitting.

As the Journal-World reported, the Douglas County Commissioners approved a project budget of $81.9 million on Dec. 11, 2024, and it will be funded with bonds and cash on hand. Treanor Architects and J.E. Dunn Construction are the design and construction team for the project, expected to take approximately two and a half years to complete.
