Douglas and Jefferson counties ask for feedback on trash and recycling services

Douglas and Jefferson counties are asking residents for feedback about trash and recycling services as they prepare to update their Solid Waste Management Plan.

A news release from Douglas County said the two counties are conducting a survey to help them update the plan, which is required by state law. The counties will be examining the available services and developing ideas to make them more efficient and environmentally friendly.

Among other things, the survey asks about the types of trash, recycling and yard waste services services you receive and how much you pay for them. It also asks how you typically dispose of certain items such as food waste, tires, electronics and motor oil, and whether you use special recycling and hazardous waste drop-off sites in Douglas and Jefferson counties.

The survey is open to anyone who lives in Douglas County or Jefferson County except for Lawrence residents. The release said the City of Lawrence will be doing its own survey in early 2026 that will be incorporated into the plan.
