City of Lawrence snowplow Taylor Drift clears streets Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025.

It won’t be clearing any yellow brick roads, but one Lawrence snowplow now has a great and plow-erful new name: “The Blizzard of Oz.”

The City of Lawrence this week announced the punny moniker as the winner of the 2025 snowplow naming contest. In a post on Facebook, it said more than 300 name ideas were submitted and hundreds of community members cast votes for their favorite.

Soon, the name will appear on a magnet on the side of the truck, just like the winner of the inaugural contest last year, “Taylor Drift.”

“We’re working on getting the custom magnet ordered, and we’ll share photos once it’s officially decked out!” the city’s post read. “We’ll also reach out to those who submitted the winning name for a photo op with their plow.”
