Trash pickup across Lawrence will only pause on three holidays starting this year, the city announced in a news release Friday.

The only three days when the city’s Solid Waste Division won’t provide regular trash and recycling collection will be Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. On those days, pickup will happen one day later for the rest of the week.

Although city offices will still be closed on the other holidays, trash collection will occur on its normal schedule on:

Martin Luther King Jr. Day – Jan. 20

Presidents Day – Feb. 17

Memorial Day – May 26

Juneteenth – June 19

Independence Day – July 4

Labor Day – Sept. 1

Day after Thanksgiving – Nov. 28

Ron Green, the general manager of Solid Waste, said in the release that the change was made, in part, based on feedback from the crews. Green said this change would reduce weekend work and limit disruptions for the community.

“We’re glad to make this adjustment that gives our crews a better work/life balance while keeping things reliable for residents,” Green said. “This is a win-win for everyone.”
