The City of Lawrence has launched a new affordable housing dashboard that displays real-time progress toward achieving the city’s affordable housing goals.
The affordable housing dashboard is divided into three tabs, each highlighting a different area: housing stabilization projects, new affordable housing developments, and a map showing the locations of affordable housing projects in Lawrence, according to a news release from the City of Lawrence.
“This is a simple way for anyone in the community to see our progress on affordable housing,” Lea Roselyn, affordable housing administrator for the City of Lawrence, said in the release. “We want our community to see that affordable housing is not just about building new housing developments; we also support housing affordability through housing stabilization programs, including home repairs, vouchers, accessibility modifications and more.”
According to the dashboard, there are currently 1,102 affordable housing units that are funded, including 59 ADA units, 219 senior units and 216 family units. The primary source of funding is the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, with $6.6 million going toward these units. Some units have also been funded by federal sources, which have supplied $4.4 million.
In addition, the dashboard highlights that 3,719 households have been served through the city’s housing stabilization programs, which can include home repair, housing vouchers, short-term rental assistance, accessibility modifications and home-buyer assistance for Lawrence households with a total income at or under 80% of the median income for their specific geographic area.
Goals for achieving affordable housing in Lawrence have been adopted by the Affordable Housing Advisory Board and the Lawrence City Commission, and they are included in the joint city and county plan to end chronic homelessness, A Place for Everyone.
The goals include expanding the supply of permanently affordable homes and rental units for households earning at or below 80% of the area median income; improving access to affordable housing; increasing home repair assistance for these households; and enhancing housing stability for those in unstable living conditions.
The release said the dashboard is phase one of an updated online presence for affordable housing. The city hopes to next develop a new webpage with summaries of affordable housing trust fund projects from the past two years.
The City of Lawrence is currently accepting applications for the Affordable Housing Trust Fund. Applications need to be submitted electronically as either a Word document or PDF document saved directly from the Word application to Roselyn at lroselyn@lawrenceks.org by 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 1, 2025. The release said scanned PDFs would not be accepted and will be returned to the applicant.
