Lawrence to close emergency overflow shelters Wednesday

The City of Lawrence will be closing the two emergency overflow shelters it opened earlier this month in response to extreme winter weather, according to a news release Tuesday evening from the city.

At 9 a.m. Wednesday, the city will be closing the shelters at Santa Fe Depot, 413 E. Seventh St., and University Community of Christ, 1900 University Drive.

The emergency shelter at First United Methodist Church closed on Sunday.

The primary winter emergency shelter for the community will continue to be the Lawrence Community Shelter, 3655 E. 25th St., which can serve up to 140 people. Anyone who needs assistance accessing shelter can contact the city’s team at (785) 760-1481 or (785) 813-9483.
