The City of Lawrence on Monday announced the completion of a major road project in North Lawrence.
The last traffic cones were picked up on North Second and North Third Street, North Lawrence’s main thoroughfare, after a monthslong resurfacing project. The project, which started in July, stretched from just north of the Kansas River Bridge to the northern city limits, and it occurred simultaneously to a major road project on the southern end of the river bridge at Sixth Street.
Funded in part by a $400,000 grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation’s City Connecting Link Improvement Program, the North Lawrence project encompassed upgrades to improve both functionality and accessibility. The work included:
• Milling, patching and overlaying the roadway to create a smoother driving experience.
• Installing new curb and gutter where needed to improve drainage and durability.
• Reconstructing ADA-compliant ramps and updating pedestrian pushbuttons at Lyon Street.
The city, in its news release, thanked Lawrence residents, businesses and travelers “for their patience and understanding throughout the construction period.”
