First community listening session on housing and homelessness strategic plan is this week

The Housing and Homelessness Steering Committee is seeking input from area residents on the draft of its five-year housing and homelessness strategic plan.

The committee, which is facilitated by the City of Lawrence and Douglas County, will be hosting a community listening session on Friday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Lawrence Union Pacific Depot, 402 N. Second St.

As the Journal-World has reported, the strategic plan has five focus areas: equity and inclusion, affordable housing, supportive housing, systems and emergency shelter. The overall objective of the plan is to achieve “functional zero” homelessness by 2028.

Another community session is also planned for May 18 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St.
