The city's recycling event is scheduled for May 13.

If you have unwanted electronics to dispose of, you can do so May 13 at a recycling event hosted by the City of Lawrence.

The event — scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the north parking lot of Free State High School, 4700 Overland Drive — is free and open to all Douglas County residents.

A full list of accepted and nonaccepted recyclable items can be found on the city’s website.

Examples of accepted materials include computers, TVs, speakers, keyboards, microwaves, stereos and other small appliances. (Note: TVs and monitors that contain cathode-ray tubes will be accepted for a $40 cash fee.)

Examples of items that won’t be accepted are CDs, batteries, fire alarms, light bulbs and large appliances.

Participants are asked to stay in their vehicles as they arrive at the event site.
