The City of Lawrence has again extended the deadline for those who want to make or arrange their own sidewalk repairs.

The city previously extended the deadline to file self-repaired hazards from April 30 to May 31, and will now extend it another month until June 30, according to a city news release. The release said that the deadline was extended to help Lawrence residents who may be experiencing both time and financial burdens because of COVID-19.

The properties that have not had hazards repaired or that have not scheduled inspection of their self-repairs by the deadline will automatically be included in the city’s bid with its contractor. The city-repaired properties will now be packaged and released for bids in July and the contract awarded in August. The city contractor will make repairs September through November, and customers will receive bills once work is complete, with the option to pay in five annual installments with 4% annual interest.

The city was broken into zones to begin enforcing its long-standing ordinance that requires property owners to pay to repair the sidewalks running along their properties, and several neighborhoods in southeast Lawrence must make repairs this year.
