Household Hazardous Waste Facility to temporarily stop accepting products

The Lawrence-Douglas County Household Hazardous Waste Facility, located at 2201 Kresge Road, will temporarily stop accepting hazardous waste effective immediately.

The city announced in a news release that beginning Wednesday, the facility would halt its acceptance of hazardous waste materials because it was over capacity. The release did not explain why the city was over capacity but said updates on when the facility will begin accepting products again will be communicated when available.

Residents are advised to dispose of their hazardous waste materials at one of the other local disposal options while the facility is unavailable, and a complete recyclable materials directory is available on the City of Lawrence website. Questions about where to recycle hazardous waste while the facility is temporarily unavailable should be directed to the Municipal Services & Operations Department by calling 832-7800 or emailing MSO@lawrenceks.org.
