Kansas Completes $450M First Phase of David Booth Memorial Stadium Renovation, Enhancing Fan Experience
The University of Kansas just completed its first phase of a significant renovation project on David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium. It was a big financial undertaking at $450 million, expanding seating and adding multiple other amenities within the stadium, along with other upgrades to neighboring facilities.
This project, dubbed the Gateway District initiative, focused on integrating the Anderson Family Football Complex, David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, and the university’s brand-new conference center located on the stadium’s north end. Jayhawks students and fans have been able to enjoy the renovated stadium by attending two straight home games less than three years after this project was announced in October 2022.
Some of the major renovations completed in the first phase at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium include a restructured seating bowl. This was done to improve sightlines while providing closer proximity to the field for fans.
A lot of effort was spent on enhancing the comfort of fans attending Jayhawks football games. This is evidenced by the addition of seatbacks with additional access to premium areas such as clubs, suites, and other premium options. Even the concourse underwent upgrades, down to the concession menus.
The University of Kansas and its renovated David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium are located less than an hour from the Missouri border. Jayhawks fans who are physically located in the “Show Me State” can look forward to Missouri sports betting going live on December 1st, 2025.
With QB Jalon Daniels leading Kansas’ football team to a 2-0 record, the Jayhawks could be vying for College Football Playoff contention if they continue to play well against Big 12 opponents. Missouri sports bettors can take advantage of the upcoming arrival of online sports betting by registering with various online sportsbook promo codes.
Claim hundreds in bonus bet rewards through several different welcome offers. Then, once sports betting launches, new customers can place a first bet or bonus bet on Kansas in a potential Big 12 Championship Game or within College Football Playoff futures markets.
For now, Jayhawks fans can enjoy the additional amenities that were included during the Gateway District initiative. A new scoreboard was installed, along with over 2,000 club seats in social zones, with dining and retail shops.
Phase 2 will add even more renovations to David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in the upcoming months. It starts with upgrading the east side of the stadium once the 2025 football season concludes.
It’s an ambitious piece of the initiative, aiming to build a new hotel, outdoor event plaza, student housing, parking, plus more shopping and dining options outside the east side of David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.
David Booth, an alumnus of the University of Kansas, who founded a global investment firm, Dimensional Fund Advisors, less than 10 years ago, gifted $300 million to help with the Gateway District initiative. The donor’s record-setting gift follows a previous $50 million gift made in 2017 to kickstart renovations to Memorial Stadium.
Now, eight years later, fans, students, players, and coaches are beginning to enjoy the effects of Booth’s gifts. Perhaps the upgrades to David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium will culminate in the Jayhawks’ football team making their debut in the 2025 College Football Playoff.
