Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical crews responded to a small structure fire at 219 E. Ninth St. Friday morning in downtown Lawrence.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical responded to a small structure fire in downtown Lawrence Friday morning, the department said in a news release.

The release said LDCFM dispatched units around 10:20 a.m. to a report of a fire at 219 E. Ninth St., a building just east of the Marriott hotel in downtown. Initial reports said the fire was under the building, possibly in the garage.

Crews arriving on scene observed “light smoke and smoldering in the exterior siding of the building,” the release said. They investigated and extinguished the fire, and found that it had not spread to other parts of the building.

The release said no injuries were reported, and it did not provide a damage estimate. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
