A ribbon-cutting ceremony at Family Promise of Lawrence celebrated the nonprofit's new solar energy system, donated by Good Energy Solutions. The energy company is holding its 2025 Solar Giveaway, which will gift a free solar panel system to a northeast Kansas nonprofit.

Lawrence solar company Good Energy Solutions will award a free solar panel system to a nonprofit in northeast Kansas, the company announced in a news release Wednesday.

Nonprofit organizations interested in applying for the 2025 Solar Giveaway can submit their applications through the Good Energy Solutions website at https://goodenergysolutions.com/solar-giveaway-2025/. Considerations such as the nature of the property and type of building, as well as shade in the area, are important factors in determining what building would most benefit from the donation. Organizations that have applied in previous years are encouraged to resubmit applications for 2025.

The deadline to apply is July 6.

Malcolm Proudfit, CEO of Good Energy Solutions, said his company has seen the community endure a turbulent year, with multiple cuts to nonprofits despite increasing demand for services. His company wants “to give back” to all the groups that have supported his small business, he said in the release.

The initiative, which began in 2017, aims to reduce operating costs for nonprofits by lowering their electric bills, allowing them to allocate more resources toward their missions. Since the start of the program, Good Energy has donated energy upgrades to several local nonprofits, including The Willow Domestic Violence Center, Van Go, Sunrise Project and Ballard Center. Family Promise of Lawrence received the upgrades last year.
