A motorcyclist died early Wednesday morning when he crashed at Clinton Parkway and Lake Point Drive, according to police, who believe high speeds played a role in the crash.

Officers were notified just before 1 a.m. when a passerby saw the victim lying on the south side of the roundabout’s island. Arriving officers also found a helmet nearby, police said in a news release. Medics with Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical quickly determined the man was deceased.

Several accident investigators responded and spent the overnight hours collecting evidence. They’re confident speed played a role in the crash, the release said.

In an email Wednesday afternoon, Lawrence police identified the motorcyclist as 44-year-old David Craig Evans, of Gallatin, Tenn.
