Lawrence’s Parks, Recreation and Arts and Culture Department and some Jayhawk basketball players are celebrating the 10th year of Sports Pavilion Lawrence at Rock Chalk Park with an event Saturday afternoon.
The large recreation center and youth sports fieldhouse at 100 Rock Chalk Lane, will commemorate 10 years of operation with a celebration on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Kansas Jayhawk players Zeke Mayo and Jamari McDowell will be at the event from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. signing autographs. The city said one autograph per person will be allowed and patrons must bring their item for the autograph. No pictures with the athletes will be taken, allowing as many autographs as possible.
The event will also have multiple sports events going on, including fitness and dance class demonstrations, pickleball demonstrations, free play volleyball, and a special demonstration of granny basketball.
Uplift Coffee and The Street Kitchen will have food trucks in the parking lot for those wanting to purchase food and drinks. Additionally, more than 100 unclaimed basketballs will be given out from the facility’s lost and found.
