Lawrence Police Chief Rich Lockhart has been appointed to the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training, Gov. Laura Kelly’s office announced Thursday.

Members of the commission are appointed by the governor, and the body is responsible for overseeing law enforcement training throughout the state. The commission can suspend, revoke or deny the certification of a police or law enforcement officer who fails to meet the requirements of the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Act or has met such requirements by falsifying documents or failing to disclose information required for certification.

The commission also provides accredited instruction, which is required for permanent appointment of full-time police and law officers.

Along with Lockhart, Wichita Police Department lieutenant Aaron Moses was also named to the 12-member commission Thursday.
