Man arrested on suspicion of brandishing firearm downtown
Lawrence Police Department
A Kansas City, Missouri, man was arrested in downtown Lawrence overnight after allegedly brandishing a firearm and threatening to use it.
Andrew Self, 20, of Kansas City, Missouri, was arrested Sunday morning on suspicion of aggravated assault and use of a deadly weapon. The incident took place around 12:30 a.m., according to Lawrence police spokesperson Laura McCabe, who said Self pulled the firearm from a crossbody bag and threatened to shoot a man who was attempting to enter a vehicle.
McCabe told the Journal-World that the alleged victim had just departed an establishment in the 700 block of Massachusetts Street when Self, who was with a group of people, brandished the weapon and began yelling threats at the man. The man left the scene and contacted police.
“Officers were dispatched and able to locate a group matching the description,” McCabe said. “The suspect was also carrying a weapon that matched the description the victim described.”
Self is being held at the Douglas County jail with no bond.
