The Lawrence City Commission will reconsider a request to increase the density of a 3.4-acre parcel of land at 1100 Kasold Drive to allow for duplexes to be built there instead of single-family homes.

Commissioner Amber Sellers asked for the rezoning request to be reconsidered as part of the commission’s meeting Tuesday. Sellers and Mayor Courtney Shipley were the only two commissioners to vote against the request, but because neighbors filed a protest petition, a supermajority vote, or four of five commissioners, was required to approve it.

Sellers said there were some aspects of the rezoning application she wanted to further examine, and the commission voted 4-1, with Shipley opposed, to reconsider the request. The commission will reconsider the request on Nov. 15.
