Employees at a Lawrence Starbucks are seeking to unionize

Employees at Lawrence’s 1731 W. 23rd St. Starbucks location are forming a union, a union organizer announced Monday morning.

The group was set to file Monday with the National Labor Relations Board to schedule an election, per a press release from Workers United union organizer Mari Orrego. They’ll join a growing list of Starbucks locations, including stores in Overland Park and Kansas City, Missouri, that have sought union representation after a store in Buffalo, New York, became the first corporate location in the country to unionize in December.

Per the release, a letter emailed to Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, says the workers seek collective bargaining to guarantee them a living wage, safer working conditions, stability of employment and a say in their place of work.
