Local planners are looking for input from residents as they work to update the area’s long-range transportation plan, which will address all modes of transportation in the Lawrence area.

Transportation 2050 will be “a blueprint for the future transportation system” of Lawrence, Eudora, Baldwin City, Lecompton and unincorporated areas of Douglas County, according to the project website. The plan will set regional goals and improvement recommendations to meet the region’s future transportation needs through 2050 for automobile, public transit, bicycle, pedestrian and other forms of transportation. Financial resources to implement the plan will also be identified.

The Lawrence-Douglas County Metropolitan Planning Organization is collecting resident input to inform the update through a community survey that is available on the project website, lawrenceks.org/mpo/t2050/. The survey asks residents to rate the priority of various factors for the region, such as alternatives to driving, impacts on the environment, traffic congestion and reliable travel times. The survey also asks how satisfied residents are with their typical auto/car, bicycling, transit and walking experience, and what factors affect their satisfaction.

The deadline to complete the survey is 12:01 a.m. on June 21. A schedule for the plan update estimates a draft of Transportation 2050 will be complete in the fall, and the Metropolitan Planning Organization will begin reviewing the draft in the winter of 2023 following public comment on the draft.
