A Texas man has been arrested on suspicion of arson at a Kwik Shop in west Lawrence.

Lawrence police arrested the man, Calvin Lamont Rubles, 34, of Dallas, Tuesday afternoon after he allegedly started a fire Tuesday at the convenience store at 4841 W. Sixth St.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical responded to the small fire on the outside of the building and quickly doused the flames, said interim Fire Chief Tom Fagan.

The property damage was limited, Fagan said, and no injuries were reported.

Rubles was taken to the Douglas County Jail, where he was booked around 2:45 p.m. on suspicion of aggravated arson.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Rubles was being held without bond and was awaiting his first court appearance, according to the booking log. The investigation is ongoing.
