A young New York School elementary student does a little dance Monday, Jan. 24, 2022, as she joins supporters of the local Save Our Schools group, concerned about possible school closings, outside of the district office, 110 McDonald Drive.

The local group Save Our Schools is hosting a community meeting later today to discuss issues related to possible school closings.

A Facebook event listing states that the meeting will be a chance for neighborhoods, community members and work groups to meet, share updates and work collectively on next steps. Due to COVID concerns and Wednesday’s snow storm, the event has been moved to online only, and a link to join the Zoom meeting is available on the event announcement on the Save Our Schools Facebook page. The meeting is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

The Lawrence school district has been discussing various options to address a multimillion-dollar budget shortfall, including the possibility of closing some schools.
