For the first time since October, the Douglas County Commission is set to meet at the Douglas County Courthouse.

The commission was forced to host its November meetings next door in the Douglas County Judicial and Law Enforcement Center after the courthouse sprinkler system damaged several rooms in the building. The group’s next meeting, set for Wednesday, will mark a return to its usual space at 1100 Massachusetts St.

In part, the commission had to meet in a different space because the water damage ruined the commission meeting room’s audio-visual equipment. Douglas County Administrator Sarah Plinsky told the commission on Wednesday that the county would be using rental equipment, which was installed Thursday.

“Barring any future disasters inside the courthouse, we will be back inside the old courthouse for the Dec. 7 meeting,” Plinsky said. “We really appreciate the flexibility and the understanding of the judges and the District Court for letting us use their facilities and working with us so thoughtfully in this process.”

Plinsky didn’t share any cost estimate for the damage at the courthouse.
