Former La Yarda residents and some of their family members are pictured at a screening of "Searching for La Yarda" on Oct. 2, 2021, at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St.

Another screening will soon take place for a local documentary about the Mexican American community of La Yarda that existed for more than 30 years in East Lawrence.

Local filmmakers Lourdes Kalusha-Aguirre and Marlo Angell have created a 15-minute documentary, “Searching for La Yarda,” about the housing complex built for Mexican railroad workers that existed along the tracks in East Lawrence from 1920 to 1951, as the Journal-World recently reported.

Two screenings were held earlier this month, and Angell said a third would take place at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 19 at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St. A Q&A with the filmmakers will follow the screening. Masks will be required.
