Some railway crossings in Lawrence to temporarily close for maintenance
Beginning Tuesday, the BNSF Railway will begin maintenance on several railroad crossings in Lawrence, causing them to close temporarily.
The city’s Municipal Services and Operations spokesman, Josh Carson, said BNSF planned to start maintenance beginning with the 15th Street and 11th Street crossings on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The railway will close the South Powerhouse Road and Indiana Street crossings on Wednesday and Thursday. Carson noted that because the railway will be working on both of the crossings near Burcham Park at the same time, access to the park trail will be restricted.
Carson said work on the crossings would be conducted from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, and the city’s understanding is that the crossings will be reopened at night.
