The City of Lawrence’s compost facility will be open one final Saturday before closing for the winter.

The facility, 1420 E. 11th St., will be open on Dec. 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m, according to a city news release. Residents may drop off brush and other yard waste, including leaves, grass clippings, garden waste and prunings from trees and shrubs. The cost for brush and yard waste drop-off is $5 (cash only) per pickup truckload, more for larger trucks. Residents may also purchase compost or woodchips at the compost facility on Saturday for $10 (cash only) per pickup truckload, more for larger trucks. Residents should bring a shovel, as compost and woodchips must be self-loaded.

After Dec. 11, the facility will be closed to the public during the winter months. The compost facility will reopen in March 2022.

The facility does not take pumpkins, lumber, pallets, sod, stones or fill dirt, among other materials. For a complete list of materials not accepted, as well as more information about the facility, visit lawrenceks.org/swm/compost-facility or call 785-832-7800.
