Volunteer opportunities: Child care help needed

Success by 6 Coalition of Douglas County needs volunteers to assist with its parenting education classes by providing child care for children younger than 5 while their parents are attending class. Two to three volunteers care for children at Centennial Adult Education Center, 2145 Louisiana St. Age-appropriate activities will be planned, and pizza will be provided to attendees.
Volunteers are needed on Wednesday evenings starting April 6 and ending May 11, and also on the second Tuesday of each month. All shifts are from 5:30 to 8 p.m. For more information, please contact Rich Minder at docofamily2family@gmail.com or 842-8719.
Recycling event
The City of Lawrence Solid Waste Division is looking for volunteers for the Spring Electronic Recycling and Document Shredding Event on March 19 in the Free State High School parking lot, 4700 Overland Drive. Volunteers are needed from 8:15 a.m. until about 1:15 p.m. Shorter volunteer shifts can be accommodated. Lunch will be provided.

Deliver meals
Lawrence Meals on Wheels provides hot, nutritious meals to the homebound elderly and disabled residents of Lawrence. Lawrence Meals on Wheels needs regularly weekly drivers for lunchtime meal delivery.
Delivery shifts are from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on weekdays. Routes generally take less than an hour. Please contact Kim Culliss at 830-8844 or at 4mealsonwheels@sbcglobal.net for more information.
Beautify the city
The City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department has several opportunities for individuals and groups to assist in beautifying the community by helping with flower planting and park cleanup. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.

Help the Salvation Army
The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to help prepare, serve and clean up after the feeding program on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Shifts run from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. Please contact Lt. Marisa McCluer at 843-4188, ext. 102, for more information.
Be a Big Brother
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Douglas County provides one-to-one relationships for children facing adversity. Big Brothers Big Sisters is looking for a male mentor 18 years or older to spend a few hours a week with an 11-year-old boy on the waiting list. This boy enjoys sports and being active. He has lots of energy and is very friendly.
