Topeka ? Free State High’s Tye Carter set a school record in the javelin, and the Firebirds’ Callie Hicks set a meet record in girls pole vault Friday at the Topeka Seaman Relays.

Carter’s mark of 193 feet, 2 inches beat Nick Witmer’s old school record set in 2006 and helped the Firebirds to fourth place in the team standings. FSHS had 69 points to trail Manhattan (91.5), Leavenworth (83) and Wichita Bishop Carroll (81).

Avin Lane won the 100 in 10.80 seconds for the Firebirds’ other event victory.

Hicks won the pole vault at 12 feet, 3 inches as the FSHS girls placed third with 62 points behind Manhattan (80.67) and Lawrence High (71).

Rebecca Finley won the girls discus at 148-5, and the 4X400 relay team of Leah Gabler, Marisa Pope, Kyleigh Severa and Myah Yoder won in 4:02.77 to lead the LHS girls.

J.D. Woods won the 200 in 20.49 to pace the Lions’ boys, who placed seventh in the team race with 50 points.
