Searchlight over campus to figuratively shed light on issue of sexual assault

What’s up with the searchlight over campus?

It’s there to “Light the Night” and create awareness about sexual assault and resources for combatting it.

“Light the Night,” a Sexual Assault Awareness Month event, is scheduled from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday on the Kansas University campus. A large searchlight will shine in the sky, and KU will provide a confidential and accessible space for people seeking support inside Danforth Chapel.

“As an institution of higher learning, we have a responsibility to foster dialogue and respond to these issues,” Chris Sowa, assistant director for KU Student Housing, said in a news release. “We also must provide resources that survivors of sexual violence can access.”
