KAMU awarded federal navigator grant for second straight year

The Kansas Association for the Medically Underserved was recently awarded a federal navigator grant of $468,396 for the second year of outreach and enrollment activities and training of navigators for the health insurance marketplace, part of the 2010 Affordable Care Act.

Through last year’s grant, KAMU established the Cover Kansas project, assisting nearly 16,000 Kansans during the marketplace’s first open enrollment period. This year, Cover Kansas will work to recruit 160 individuals who will complete the navigator training and become actively engaged in outreach, education and enrollment activities.

KAMU also hopes to educate at least 40,000 Kansans about the health insurance marketplace through community presentations. In addition, navigators will be available to provide face-to-face appointments for Kansans seeking help with the application and enrollment process.

Open enrollment begins Nov. 15 and continues until Feb. 15. Anyone interested in becoming a navigator can email coverkansas@kspca.org.
