Today in Lawrence: A weekend of good weather, education and charity

Lawrence Meals on Wheels is hosting its annual Signature

Fall in the air

Want sun? You can have some. Today will be sunny with a high of 67 degrees with a low of 40; Saturday will drop a little lower, temperature-wise, to 62 with sunny skies. Sunday may have a few more clouds, but the temperature will come back up to 67. The overnight lows will be in the 40s with clear skies. Light the firepit and enjoy the cool onset of fall evenings!

Library isn’t just for kids

Bring your lunch and listen to our librarians entertain you in our Auditorium. For October we’ll be reading Richard Matheson’s short story Prey and some treats from Shirley Jackson. Grown-Up Storytime is from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the Lawrence Public Library auditorium, 707 Vermont St.

Feed your need for charity

Lawrence Meals on Wheels is hosting its annual “Signature Settings” Charity Auction from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Maceli’s, 1031 New Hampshire St. All proceeds will go to help feed our Lawrence neighbors in need! Tickets are $50 and include a fun evening complete with an appetizer buffet, wine and beer, and silent and live auction items.

For the birds

The Jayhawk Audubon Society Fall Bird Seed, Book & Feeder Sale will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Lawrence Senior Center, 745 Vermont St. Support local Audubon Society education (including Monarch Watch Tagging and Eagles Day) and conservation projects with your purchases.

Night at the Museum

With everything from microbial art to fluorescent geysers, a science festival atmosphere will permeate the galleries for this year’s Party in the Panorama at the KU Natural History Museum. The Party in the Panorama: A Science Soiree for Grown-ups, will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the KU Natural History Museum, 1345 Jayhawk Blvd. Tickets are $40 each or two for $75 and available through the KU Alumni Association, at kualumni.org/panoramaparty.

Intrigue in ‘Tovarich’

“Tovarich,” which means “comrade” in Russian, is a sophisticated and farcical comedy of manners, disguise, and revelation. Get a ticket for KU Theatre’s presentation of “Tovarich” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Crafton-Preyer Theatre in Murphy Hall, 1530 Naismith Drive.

Climate change talk

Climate Change – The Local Picture will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Lawrence Jewish Community Center, 917 Highland Drive. The second in a series of local talks about climate change, The Local Picture will address local and regional changes that have already occurred because of global warming, the difference between “weather” and “climate,” and what Lawrence and the region will likely experience weather- and climate-wise in the future.
