A local service agency recently made it easier for a Lawrence man to get out of the house to his cancer treatments.
Independence Inc. recently funded and facilitated the building of a ramp for Lloyd Brooks.
In February Brooks, who is partially paralyzed because of a genetic disorder, found out he had stage 4 lung cancer.
To get to his cancer treatments, he had to have two people help him. That was even more difficult when he came back from chemotherapy, which left him with so little energy he could barely move.
But in March, Independence Inc., using donations raised in the community, arranged for Kingdom Builders wheelchair ramp ministry of Eudora to construct a ramp at Brooks’ Lawrence home. Now it’s much easier for him to get to his doctor appointments, as well as go to the store and for rides around the lake.
