Raven to host best-selling author Antonya Nelson

National best-selling author, Kansas University alumna and Wichita native Antonya Nelson will be doing a reading of her new collection of short stories “Funny Once” at Raven Book Store at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The title story is about a couple held together bad behavior who fall into a lie with their more responsible friends. Throughout, Nelson paints stories showing the humanity of various aging characters partaking in regrettable actions, both taken and not.

Nelson has written nine fiction books, including the collections “Female Trouble” and “Nothing Right,” and novels “Talking in Bed,” “Nobody’s Girl,” and “Bound.” She is a recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, an NEA grant, and, recently, the Rea Award for Short Fiction. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, Esquire, Harper’s and Best American Short Stories.

She received a bachelor’s degree from KU in 1983.
