Brake failure causes wreck on Wakarusa; van flips on side
Lawrence police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Wakarusa Drive and Clinton Parkway at 7:49 a.m. Friday morning after a vehicle accident caused a van to flip on its side.
Kim Murphree of the Lawrence Police Department said 21-year-old Ottawa man Levi Kaub was driving northbound on Wakarusa Drive in his Ford EC2 van when he experienced a brake failure and was unable to stop as he neared the intersection.
As Kaub entered the intersection, 30-year-old Ruan Marx of Kansas City, Kan., drove his Nissan Sentra into the intersection on a green light. Kaub’s van collided with the Sentra, Murphree said.
The van turned onto its side and slid a short distance before stopping in the middle of the intersection following the collision, Murphree said.
Murphree said there were no injuries reported from the accident. Lawrence police issued Kaub citations for defective brakes and running a red light.
