Skydiver killed in jump Saturday evening over Franklin County

A skydiver was found dead Saturday evening near Ottawa, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed.

Authorities arrived at the 3100 block of Kansas Highway 68 around 7:20 p.m. in response to a report of the missing skydiver.

The search team, composed of officers from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Lincoln-Ottawa-Harrison Fire Department and skydiving company personnel, located the skydiver in a field approximately one mile east of the planned drop zone.

The skydiver, a 54-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not released his name yet.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified and will be involved in the ongoing investigation.
