Arrest made after Munchers employee discovers man in ceiling

A 23-year-old Lawrence man was arrested on suspicion of criminal trespassing and criminal damage to property early Friday morning after employees at Munchers Bakery told police they found someone crawling in the ceiling.

Anthony Dwayne Jimboy was booked into Douglas County Jail after Lawrence Police arrested him at 3:29 a.m. at the bakery, 925 Iowa St.

Police say that upon noticing extensive damage to the ceiling tiles in the men’s and women’s bathrooms, which are in a hallway shared by several businesses, a Munchers employee found a wallet belonging to the suspect on the floor of one of the bathrooms. Soon after, the employee heard movement in the ceiling then called police, according to Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence Police Department spokesman.

McKinley said police soon located Jimboy in the ceiling and he exited into an adjoining suite, where he followed commands to exit the suite before being taken into custody.

Police say Jimboy said he climbed into the ceiling after he became locked in the bathroom.

“The only problem with that story,” McKinley said, “is that the doors do not have locks.”

Jimboy was released from jail on Friday on a $200 bond.
