Lawrence firefighters collecting for MDA this weekend

This weekend, Lawrence firefighters will hit the streets to fill their boots — with money.

Firefighters will be collecting donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association from today through Monday at several locations in town. The money collected will help MDA in its mission to provide durable medical equipment such as wheelchairs, leg braces and communication devices; pay for clinic visits; sponsor summer camp for children living with muscle disease; and conduct research.

The firefighters will be at the following locations: Dillons stores at 1740 Massachusetts St., 1015 W. 23rd St., 3000 W. Sixth St. and 4701 W. Sixth St.; Checkers, 2300 Louisiana St.; Hy-Vee, 3504 Clinton Parkway; and Walmart, 3300 Iowa St. Collections will be taken from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. all three days.

This summer marks the 59th anniversary of the partnership between firefighters across the country and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
