Church music event to help with Habitat house

Representatives from six churches will come together for a good cause during the Lawrence Habitat for Humanity MusicFest.

The event is set for 6-8 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vermont St. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. All donations benefit Habitat’s Building on Faith house, to be constructed this year.

Sara Wentz, First United Methodist’s director of music and worship, is coordinating the music program and participating church choirs, which come from First United Methodist, First Baptist, Peace Mennonite, Good Shepherd Lutheran, First Christian Church and St. Luke AME.

New this year, Matthew Potterton, director of chorale activities at Baker University, will conduct the all-choir number at the end of the program. Potterton has conducted choruses for Baker’s Annual Christmas Candlelight Vespers since 2009.
