High school students invited to program on college financial aid

High school students and parents at an event on the Kansas University campus this Sunday can learn more about financial aid for college and become eligible to win a $500 scholarship.

College Goal Sunday will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Joseph R. Pearson Hall, 1122 W. Campus Road, in room 102. The event is free and open to the public, and students can get one-on-one assistance in filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, form. The event is free and open to all high school students who wish to attend college. There will be 21 other sites across the state on Sunday.

“A common concern among students in planning for college is how to pay for it,” said Jule Kirk, chairwoman for College Goal Sunday Kansas 2012. “Completing the FAFSA is the first step in the federal financial aid application process. This year, free professional help in completing the FAFSA and answering financial aid questions will be provided to students and families at 22 sites across Kansas,”

Students and their parents should bring their 2011 tax return form and W-2 forms. More information is available at www.CollegeGoal.org or at “College Goal Sunday Kansas” on Facebook. At each Kansas site, College Goal Sunday will distribute one scholarship each through a drawing.
