25 years ago: Crimson Girls routine deemed ‘inappropriate’

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for April 1, 1987:

Members of the Kansas University Crimson Girls had been informed by athletic department officials that their uniforms and dance routines were “not appropriate.” After the athletic department had two complaints, the group was no longer to be allowed to wear full-length unitards, and a special committee was to review future dance routines. Gary Hunter, associate athletic director, said that he had been planning to review the performances of all the spirit groups and that this was “not a knee-jerk reaction to two individuals who felt the half-time act was not proper.”
