2 Lawrence students win merit scholarships

Two students from Lawrence are among 2,500 students to be designated nationally as Merit Scholars by the National Merit Scholarship Corp.

The winners from Lawrence:

• Alex Chen-Yu Kong, of Free State High School, whose probable career field is pharmacy.

• David Lawrence, of Bishop Seabury Academy, whose probable career field is undecided.

Each will receive a $2,500 scholarship.

Winners of such scholarships are considered to be the finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college studies, the corporation said in announcing the winners. They were selected by a committee of high school counselors and college admissions officers.
