Kansas Bioscience Authority will fund Wichita research group despite disputes

? The Kansas Biosciences Authority says it will continue funding a Wichita research center that has been central to a dispute with Gov. Sam Brownback.

Authority board chairman John Carlin says the center in Wichita could eventually get the full $20 million that supporters say it was promised. Carlin has said the exact amount of funding was never specified.

Researchers at the center, called CIBOR, work to turn aircraft materials into medical advances. Brownback had demanded that the authority fund the center.

The Wichita Eagle reports Thursday that state lawmakers began investigating the authority after CIBOR scientists complained they were not getting the $20 million research funding they had been promised.

The Johnson County Attorney is conducting a criminal probe of the authority after complaints about what some called excessive spending.
