Popular peregrine falcons ousted from downtown Topeka nest

? A pair of peregrine falcons who became Internet stars while living in a nesting box in downtown Topeka has been evicted by another pair of falcons.

WIBW radio reports that a falcon couple from Nebraska that was flying home from South America moved into a nesting box on Westar Energy’s downtown building sometime last week. The female has laid two eggs. Westar employees have named the new falcon residents Nemaha and Boreas.

The original pair of falcons, named Hope and Doorly, stopped to hatch babies in the box every year since 2004. They became famous when Westar installed two webcams to watch the eggs. Westar is hoping they will find a new home in another nesting box that’s been installed at the Tecumseh Energy center south of Topeka.
