25 years ago: Police investigating report of false doctor

Police were investigating an incident which took place in the emergency room at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. According to a 28-year-old woman’s report, she was at the ER awaiting medical treatment when she was approached by a man dressed in a “hospital uniform” who wheeled her into an examining room and then proceeded to “give her an examination without a license.” The woman said she had been asked to partially undress. Her suspicions about the man’s credentials were confirmed at a later time, and she reported the incident to police after discussing it with a friend.

In Arizona, doctors operated on the youngest recipient of a Jarvik-7 artificial heart. The artificial heart had kept the patient alive for nine days before it was replaced with a human transplant heart.
