Stephene Moore raises $450,000 over the last quarter

Democratic congressional candidate Stephene Moore’s campaign on Friday said it raised $450,000 in the last quarter.

Her campaign called it a successful cash haul. But it fell short of Republican rival Kevin Yoder’s self-reported total of $730,000.

“Stephene has demonstrated the fundraising strength necessary to defeat Kevin Yoder,” said Matt Sinovic, Moore’s campaign manager. “Our message of electing a moderate, independent voice who will bring people together and get things done is truly resonating across the district.”

The candidates — Moore, a Lenexa nurse, Yoder, a state representative and attorney from Overland Park, and Libertarian Jasmin Talbert, also of Overland Park — are vying in the Nov. 2 election to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Dennis Moore, Stephene Moore’s husband. The 3rd District includes eastern Lawrence and Douglas County and Johnson and Wyandotte counties.

Yoder’s campaign earlier this month announced its third quarter cash haul, calling it an unofficial record for the district, and the most since Dennis Moore raised $437,000 in 2004.

“It is clear we have the momentum in this race because Kansans want someone who will work to help create jobs, balance the budget and stop the over-spending,” Yoder said at the time.

According to each campaign, Moore said she has raised more than $800,000 since she entered the race in April, and Yoder’s campaign reports it has raised more than $1.5 million in the last nine months.

A Washington, D.C., political blog, Hotline On Call, is reporting the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee had reduced ad buys in several House races, including Stephene Moore’s 3rd District campaign.

Trevor Willett, a spokesman for the Moore campaign, said he was unaware of the DCCC’s efforts, and noted the campaign cannot coordinate with third-party efforts.

“Our focus is on our race,” he said. “We are happy where we are,” he said.
