Trial in Salina deaths delayed for a year

? The capital murder trial of a man accused of killing two Salina residents has been delayed until 2011.

Terrence J. Watson, of Los Angeles, is accused in the Sept. 26, 2008, shooting deaths of Ernest Jones Jr. and Taryn Dechant, both 22, in their Salina apartment.

A Salina County judge on Tuesday agreed to delay the trial until May 3, 2011.

The Salina Journal reports that the delay was requested by Wichita attorney Richard Ney, who was hired April 26 to represent Watson. He said he has not had time to prepare for trial.

Ney replaced Julie McKenna, who was removed from the case in March after Judge Rene Young ruled her testimony might be required in the case.
